Lugo, Ruben

Ruben Lugo has been keeping fish for more than 35 years. During these years he’s kept everything from guppies to reef aquariums.

For the last seven years, Ruben has concentrated on Loricariids and other bottom dwellers. Loricariids are commonly known as plecos or suckermouth armoured catfishes ("fish that suck").  Because many of the species have not yet been given official scientific names, they often go by L-numbers.

Ruben has 30 tanks ranging from 10 to 125 gallons dedicated to bottom dwelling species.  He has now successfully bred 25 species of bottom dwellers and hopes to add to that number.

He’s written several articles on the subject for Tropical Fish Hobbyist magaine.  Ruben is currently in third place on Planet Catfish's breeder board.
