Hougen, Dean

Dean Hougen has been active in the aquarium hobby for over two decades.  He has been a long-time member of several aquarium societies including the Minnesota Aquarium soiety, the Oklahoma Aquarium Association, and the American Cichlid Association.  For many years he has been fascinated by the cichlids of South America. Dean founded the South American Cichlid study Group in 1992, and was the first editor of its journal “ACARA.”  He has written numberous articles for this and other hobby publications.  Dean’s articles have been reprinted by clubs from Canada to Australia, and translated into languages including French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Korean, and Turkish.  He has spoken at club events at both the local and national levels.
